Born in Mainland China, Daniel Weng is now a proud resident of North Carolina and a Project Engineer at Uniquetex, a China-based company specialized in engineered nonwoven fabrics.
With a year and half of experience with the company, Daniel has been instrumental in helping to establish Uniquetex’s presence in Cleveland County by retrofitting the new 360,000-square-foot building in Grover, North Carolina for production.
Daniel came to the U.S. when he was 17 years old and received a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and a Master’s Degree from the University of Houston, both in Mechanical Engineering. After graduate school, Daniel worked in Houston for a year and a half before transitioning to North Carolina for this job opportunity.
For Daniel and his wife, the transition from the major metro area of Houston to a more rural location near Uniquetex has been very successful. According to Daniel, the beautiful weather in the area was a major selling point. “I really like the weather here,” he said. “It’s more like the weather in my hometown. In Houston, it’s very dry and hot.”
The second major benefit for Daniel has been living in an area with so many professional opportunities. “There are so many companies in Cleveland County and great opportunities to talk to people working in different industries and different vendors. It has been a good opportunity for my career.”
Of his wife’s reaction to the move from Texas to North Carolina, Daniel said, “She actually prefers it here. We know our neighbors much better than in Houston and it’s friendlier.”
