Performs difficult skilled trades work overseeing and participating in the construction, maintenance, and operation of an electric distribution system, installing, maintaining, and repairing overhead and underground power lines and related facilities and operating equipment. Oversees set-up of job sites to meet safety standards and serves as a crew leader. Responsible for these typical tasks: performs work on energized high voltage circuits from bucket truck or climbs poles; installs, maintains, and troubleshoots substation switches and electric circuits; performs switching operations to isolate circuits; locates underground primary and secondary voltage; operates a variety of vehicles and heavy equipment; participates in the installation, maintenance, and repair of system and substations; installs transformers, switches, reclosers, and other various components; makes appropriate low and high voltage connections; performs switching operations; transfers load; troubleshoots power abnormalities; verifies the condition of all vehicles, equipment, and tools; and conducts job briefings and safety meetings.
Hours: Monday – Friday; first shift. Will be required to work outside of normal working hours in stand-by, on-call or other emergency situations. To Compete in the Selection Process: High school diploma/GED with considerable experience in electric line construction and maintenance. Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, materials and tools used in the erection and maintenance of electrical lines; and hazards & safety precautions. Must be able to climb poles and work with efficiency and safety; understand oral and written instructions; basic operation of computers & mathematical calculations; establish and maintain good working relationships; make proper service connections with speed and accuracy; and train and supervise. Special requirement: Possession of an NC CDLs. Possession of Journeyman Lineman, CPR-First Aid, Forklift, Flagging, Trenching and Shoring, Confined Spaces, and Competent Person certifications upon hire. Protective Grounding, Distribution Regulator, Substation, Leadership, NESC Overview, and Overhead Distribution Systems training within 24 months of hire. Successfully complete Pole Top Rescue and Bucket Rescue upon hire and each year thereafter. Completion of Electricities schools: Advanced Underground, Advanced Lineman, and Advanced Meter. Completion of Lineman Career Development Program Level III preferred. |
