Equipment Operator

Our Shelby, NC location produces and converts the tissue or paper used in private label bath and facial tissue for grocery stores across the U.S. The Equipment Operator (Machine Operator) is responsible for managing specific functions on the Converting Line including automatic and manual processes and machines. Equipment Operators will begin on the line learning one function and will progress throughout the department, learning multiple roles and machines, providing an opportunity for increased responsibility and compensation. This is a Machine Operator position. Starting Pay is $18-$21.40 depending on experience.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities
Operational and Quality Control
Prep and load material in preparation for different machines
Operate and observe machines using computer systems and controls
Troubleshoot machines and request maintenance as needed
Respond to misfeed or jams in machine, removing damaged product as needed
Maintain fluid level/oil and lubricant as needed, monitor adhesive levels for cores and cases
Perform product quality checks
Operate both manually and with crane to transfer and move finished product
Complete product changeovers efficiently and according to specifications
Fill in throughout department as needed, assisting with other functions of the converting line
Safety and Housekeeping
Hold self and others to high level of safety standards, ensuring workplace safety policies are upheld and safety rules
are followed (lockout/tagout procedures, appropriate PPE)
Participate as needed in safety incidents and help investigate root cause
Maintain a clean working environment by complying with procedures and housekeeping responsibilities
Pick up debris and excess tissue, core stock, plastic wrap, cardboard cases or slip sheets. Sweep and use air hose to
blow down tissue particles from in and around machine

Education/Experience
High school Diploma or Equivalent required
2+ years of experience working in industrial production preferred
Experience in paper manufacturing preferred
Forklift/Clamp truck certification preferred
Skills/Abilities
Familiar with enterprise work order system preferred
Familiar with Digital Control System for Machine Operators preferred
Thorough understanding of manufacturing safety procedures (lockout/tagout, confine spaces, personal protective
equipment, etc.) preferred
Proficiency in Microsoft Office products preferred
Illustrative Essential Functions
Able to work in a physically demanding environment including temperature extremes, loud noise, avoiding slipping,
tripping, and falling hazards
Physically capable of manual labor that includes bending, walking, and climbing in and around machinery and
equipment for entire 12-hour shift
Utilize hand tools, oil jugs, small and large core chucks, and product slabs
Able to lift to 40 lbs. frequently, between 40 and 50 lbs. occasionally, over 50 lbs. minimally. When lifting 50 lbs. and
above, Operator will use team lifting and overhead crane assistance.
Work environment including exposure to compressed air, steam, lubrication oil, dust, and hydraulic fluid
Able to wear and comply with all personal protective equipment (eye and ear protection, steel toed shoes, face
masks, etc.)
Able to work a 12-hour rotating shift including nights, weekends, and Holidays. Able to work overtime as needed.
Example of rotating shift schedule:
Day 1: 6:00am – 6:30pm
Day 2: 6:00am – 6:30pm
Day 3: 6:00pm – 6:30am
Day 4: 6:00pm – 6:30am
4 days off
