Field Operations Technician IDepartment: Water Resources |
Performs installations, repair and maintenance of water and sewer lines and appurtenances. Receives, performs and completes work orders; installs water and sewer infrastructure for both water distribution and sewer collection systems; installs, repairs and replaces taps and services; installs meters and bypass valves; changes meters and meter rise boxes; repairs, replaces and installs manholes, covers, and inverts; repairs and replaces hydrants; operates trucks and backhoe to backfill trenches, open holes, dig trenches, and set trench boxes; operates air hammer, bush hog, tap machine, and borer to dig under sidewalks and roads; operates concrete mixer and installs low pressure pump stations. Also, performs preventative maintenance and test sewer lines using smoke, acoustical/sonar, and flow monitors; cleans sewer lines with jetting, rodding, or bucket machines and jet vac equipment; videos sewer lines; performs right-of-way maintenance; and other duties as needed.
Hours: Monday-Friday; first shift. Will be required to work outside of normal working hours in stand-by, on-call or other emergency situations. To Compete in the Selection Process: High school diploma/GED with knowledge of tools, materials, equipment, and tasks used in the installation, replacement, maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines. Thorough knowledge in the use of common hand and power tools, ability to operate a backhoe and other medium construction equipment; ability to perform manual labor for extended periods often under unfavorable weather conditions; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with associates. Special requirement: Obtain Grade I Wastewater Collection and/or Class C Water Distribution certifications, Competent Person, Flagger and CPR certifications within 24 months of hire. Valid commercial driver’s license with a Class A tanker endorsement or ability to obtain within one year of hire. |
