|Performs work maintaining and repairing parks, ball fields, golf course, playground areas, performing general maintenance and grounds keeping duties. Mows and maintains athletic fields, golf course greens, fairways, roughs, and playgrounds; plants shrubs, sows grass, blows leaves, and maintains beds; trims hedges and weeds; prepares athletic fields for play; marks lines on playing fields; reshapes mounds; resets bases; performs general field maintenance duties; sprays fertilizer, herbicides, and fungicides on greens, fairways, and athletic fields; fertilizes and aerates greens and fairways; prepares and maintains golf course; rakes sand traps; changes tee markers and moves pins for daily golf play; repairs and maintains irrigation systems; performs minor electrical and plumbing work on buildings and picnic shelters; paints walls and parking lots; helps set up facilities for events; operates a variety of equipment including aerator, reel gang mower, fertilizer spreader, pull behind rotary mower, and hand tools in the performance of tasks; performs light maintenance of tractors and equipment; checks and changes oil, water, and fluid levels; changes filters; checks and inspects facilities, grounds, and equipment for necessary repairs; empties garbage cans; and picks up litter and debris. Hours: Monday-Friday; first shift. Job requires working some weekends, holidays, and evenings for special events, rentals, and festivals. To Compete in the Selection Process: High school diploma/GED with experience working with athletic turf maintenance, grounds keeping or parks maintenance work. Must have a general knowledge of the tools, materials, and equipment used in general construction, turf grass, horticulture, and maintenance work; safety precautions; ability to perform labor for extended periods, often under unfavorable weather conditions; ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions, read maps and take measurements; ability to operate mowers, tractors, and related machinery and equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships. Special requirements: Valid NC Driver’s License required and CPR certification within 6 months of employment.
