Payroll Specialist

Gardner-Webb University is seeking a Payroll Specialist in the Administration and Finance Division. This non-exempt (hourly) position is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of the university’s bi-weekly and adjunct payrolls, as well as assisting the Payroll Director as needed with other tasks.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Process and review for accuracy bi-weekly payroll and periodic monthly adjunct payrolls.
  • Maintain accurate payroll records with a high degree of confidentiality. The specialist should possess significant organizational skills required to process each payroll. Problem-solving skills are also a necessary component of payroll processing
  • Work with our payroll processor to resolve any processing or tax issues that might arise
  • Payment and account reconciliation of employee benefits
  • Process involuntary deductions such as levies and garnishments
  • Maintain the monthly annual leave/sick report

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Associate degree in Accounting or related field preferred
  • A strong knowledge of payroll methods and regulations is needed
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel as well as knowledge of accounting and payroll software
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills including confident, professional, and customer-friendly phone, e-mail, and interpersonal skills
  • Service-oriented, motivated, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple tasks with competing priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions
  • Ability to work independently with a keen attention to detail
