Job Description

Position: Plant Manager

Reports To: Director, Manufacturing Excellence

 

Position Summary

The plant manager oversees all activities relating to the operation of the plant, including safety, quality, production, planning, engineering, maintenance, shipping/receiving and employee engagement (scope of 100+ exempt and non-exempt employees) within a matrix organization. This position is responsible for operating the plant in a profitable and effective manner. The individual in this role is responsible for capacity planning for machinery and labor throughout the plant and the implementation and maintenance of an integrated production control system.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Directs and supervises the application of company policies to plant manufacturing operations.
  2. Responsible for establishing and executing production schedules and personnel needs based on sales requirements and plant capacity.
  3. Responsible for implementation and adherence to production standards and safety programs. Participates in process research and development programs.
  4. Controls quality, cost of production, warehousing, receiving, and shipping of raw materials through appropriate subordinates.
  5. Leads Continuous Improvement in production.
  6. Accountable for creating an inclusive and positive organizational culture while developing a strong bench of leader talent and the pipeline below that is prepared to take on larger assignments.
  7. Oversees the regular and daily maintenance of building, equipment, plant security, and protection. Leads Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
  8. Reviews and approves recommendations of team members in matters of personnel, pay rate changes, continuing education, etc.
  9. Represents the company in the community and promotes the company’s goodwill and interest in the community, as applicable.
  10. Responsible for maintenance of inventory accuracy through cycle count completion and scrap tracking.
  11. Assures production process discipline through use of day-by-the-hour boards, level build schedules, and conformance to standard work procedures.
  12. Communicates with management on an ongoing basis and deploys organizational goals and objectives to the team.
  13. Responsible for forecasting plant expenditures for fixed capital, pay rate increases, etc. for operating budget requirements.
  14. Communicates with employees regarding performance on a regular basis.
  15. Assures all employee evaluations are completed on time.
  16. Assures safety training for employees is completed prior to operation of any equipment.
  17. Participates and leads activities such as capacity planning (plant and yard), product flow, new product introduction, plant layout projects, and managing inventory levels.
  18. Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in collaborative manner with customers, suppliers, co-workers, and management.
  19. Support and help develop their team with professional development short and long term goals.
  20. Helps company meet its Strategic, Quality, and Safety objectives.
  21. Other duties may be assigned.

Job Requirements/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Operations or related discipline
  • Welding, Metal Fabrication, Paint and Assembly process knowledge and experience is desired
  • Minimum of 10-15 years total manufacturing experience with teams of 100+
  • Minimum of 5-8 years of experience in general management, plant, or business unit management in a manufacturing company with at least 3 years directly leading operations.
  • Proven P&L performance in delivering profitability, investment return, and customer satisfaction in leading a business unit/company
  • Successful supervision experience with manufacturing products to ISO 9001/API Q1 requirements
  • Proven, hands-on experience with Lean, Six Sigma manufacturing practices
  • Proven computer skills: Microsoft word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook

 Physical Demands of Position

  • This position requires walking, sitting or standing to a significant degree.
  • Must have the ability to lift 50 pounds from floor to waist, carry 50 pounds, and push and/or pull up to 20 pounds.
  • Must have the ability to climb ladders and/or stairs.
  • Stooping, crouching, kneeling and bending.
  • Handling, feeling, and gripping would be required for some activities.
  • Visual acuity is required to inspect work completed.
  • This role may be subject to internal and external environmental conditions.
