|This position organizes, supervises, and schedules a variety of recreation programs. Other duties include: organizing, administering, and supervising a variety of fitness, and recreational activities for all age groups; scheduling programs and events; developing activity calendars; registering participants; maintaining records and files; preparing reports; planning, organizing, and directing tours and trips for a variety of recreation programs and special event; working with co-sponsors and a variety of interest groups in planning and implementing programs and special events; oversees, selects, trains, and directs summer day camp staff; overseeing fitness program; overseeing special needs and senior citizen programs; preparing and maintaining information on City webpage and social media; assisting with department budget preparation; serving on various fitness, or recreational associations, boards, or committees; attend department staff meetings, program workshops, and related professional development activities.
Hours: Monday-Friday; first shift. Will be required to work outside of normal working hours for events in stand-by, on-call or other emergency situations.
To Compete in the Selection Process: Bachelor’s degree with coursework in recreation, health, physical education, or related field and moderate experience in one or more of the major fields of organized recreation programs, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge of equipment and techniques necessary to successfully conduct recreation programs; methods involved in organizing, conducting, promoting, and supervising athletic and recreation activities; first aid methods and necessary safety precautions to be used in recreation work. Must have skill in use of personal computers and the ability to communicate effectively and establish and maintain effecting working relationships. Special requirements: Possession of CPR and First Aid certifications upon hire. Must obtain NCRPA membership within 6 months of hire and NAYS certification within 1 year of hire. Valid NC commercial driver’s license required.
