Department: Planning & Development Services
|Performs complex professional work involving programmatic and project management level urban and regional planning, comprehensive and small area planning, land use planning and development regulation, transportation and transit planning, and graphic and design planning. Manages the review process of new development, change in uses, sidewalks, signs, building additions and etc; prepares recommendations related to planning, development, and zoning issues; reviews site plans and issues permits; conducts research, interprets zoning and related codes; maintains records and files; prepares reports and maps; drafts new ordinances; assists in research for long range planning projects; prepares reports and correspondence; prepares and presents to citizen review committees; receives and responds to questions regarding land use, planning, and zoning issues, programs, and services; and serves as liaison and provides assistance to various boards and commissions.
Hours: Monday – Friday; First shift hours.
To compete in the selection process: Bachelor’s degree with coursework in urban planning and moderate experience in city, regional, or urban planning with valid NC Driver’s License. Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of City planning; thorough knowledge ordinances, codes, and regulations; preparation of maps, charts, sketches, and complex graphics; and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationship. Special requirement: ability to obtain NC Certified Zoning Official certification within 2 years of hire. AICP preferred.
